A read-aloud of Maya, India And The Magical Mermaid, plus a conversation about where ideas come from.

Hi, I'm Roslyne D. Johnson, LCSW — author, social worker, and founder of MayaIndia Press. After spending nearly 40 years working with children, teens, and families as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I've seen firsthand how the messages kids receive about who they are can stay with them for a lifetime. That's why I write: to create books where Black and Brown children get to be magical, adventurous, curious, and wonderfully themselves, and where the grown-ups who love them feel just as good handing them over.
My stories, journals, and coloring books weave together representation, self-esteem, and social-emotional learning, for children discovering that their story matters, and for the Black women who care for everyone else and deserve a little care of their own. Whether you're a parent, educator, librarian, or just someone who loves a good story, I'm so glad you're here. I hope you find something on this site that makes you, or a child you love, feel seen, celebrated, and inspired.
